bUHMper Technology
Inside steel edges on splitboards are over-sprung and stiff, and fight against response, agility and control. From our beginning, Chimera has worked to replicate the feel of a high-performance solid snowboard in a splitboard, while maintaining durability and strength. The effort has led to our development of bUHMpers, now a standard on all our White Label series and available under license to any independent shaper interested in adopting a new standard.
Chimera’s bUHMpers use an engineered integrated sidewall / edge of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) plastic. This replaces the traditional inside steel edge with a lightweight, super-damp and tough-as-nails protective bumper which is anchored deep into the core. Eliminating 50% of the steel from the traditional splitboard build results in a hyper natural and responsive flex pattern, and reduced swing weight.
If you don’t enjoy the hike up, then splitboarding might not be for you. But once you’re on top of your line, you might as well have the best ride possible - with bUHMper edge technology.
Toe-to-Heel Carbon Tuning
A carbon fiber stringer pattern is located between the toe-piece and heel risers. This extends the life and feel of the board flex, provides the maximum possible contact patch and increase traction of the ski to the skintrack, and ensures snappy kick-turns.
Spliced Toe-Piece Pattern
Hardboot ‘dynasplitting’ is no longer fringe. It’s here to stay, and while a few ‘tech’toe pieces compatible with the standard 3-hole pattern are currently available, there are still many more toes pieces that adhere to their own 4-hole pattern.
Chimera has developed a spliced 3-hole / 4-hole pattern that allows direct mount (i.e., no adaptor plates) for the majority* of tech toe pieces commonly used in splitboarding, including Black Diamond (Helio), Dynafit (Speed, Speedfit, LTR), Plum, ATK, Hagan, La Sportiva and others. This saves weight, reduces complexity, reduces board breakage and increases the range of compatible hardware available to splitboarders.
*Chimera strongly recommends you check sizing. There are no universal standards on dyna tech toe insert patterns, sometimes even within brands.
Dummy-Dots
Tired of putting your bindings on backwards then kicking your ratchets off five minutes into a tour? Fed up with the jeers of your crew as you try to solve the riddle of your mismatched skins? Chimera has the solution; simply take a sharpie and draw circles on your skins and/or bindings that correspond with the Dummy Dots on your board.
The human brain is too marvelous to waste it on such mundane tasks. Free up your mind for deep-thoughts on the skin-track.
